The star has given the complete sum of his £25k Mercury Prize winnings to the trust for venues, which works to protect the UK's grassroots concert spaces.

Fender was given the cheque on mid-October as his latest record the album was chosen as the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

He has decided to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the essential function small stages had in his beginning days.

"I personally wouldn't be doing my current career if it weren't for all the performances I did around the North East, and further afield, when I was starting out," stated Sam Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these locations have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.

In the last year, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by including a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

He also joined in, collecting over £100k on his recent tour to assist thirty-eight grassroots venues across the UK.

These funds assisted spaces that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties arising from floods, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Other venues were granted monetary aid in modernizing facilities and technical equipment that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The notion that money from performances in big venues supports the independent spots, where it all starts for performers like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

Previously, they gave their winnings to the youth organization that nurtured their group, alongside other local music groups.

And 1994 winners the group contributed their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was identified with the illness.

"The victory was sufficient," remarked artist Heather Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we could do without the extra, because we had the main prize. So our winning touched somebody else's life."

Recently, the trust shared it had rescued several local spots in the South East, by transferring them to community ownership.

The Joiners in Southampton and the other in that location were bought under the public acquisition program, which is supported by the arts council and music fans who acquire "ownership units" in the properties.
