19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-term coach his previous coach.

Presently working with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of that year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is really nice," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was concluded.

But the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, supported by an improved serving game.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he earned the title with a rally at the net, with his opponent failing to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
